Background 
Nurses and midwives serve as leaders or key actors in multi-professional, interdisciplinary health teams. They provide a full range of services at all levels of the health system. Uganda and other developing countries need to train more nurses and support staff if they are to achieve the goal of Universal Access to Health Services. 
The Harvey Institute encourages students to; gain and sustain an interest in knowledge and community development, conceptual recognition and formation, empathy, service, loyalty and commitment to service delivery, Ubuntu and integrity, initiative and work ethics. 

Challenges 
  • Chronic lack of nurses, poor distribution and retention of nurses
  • Increasing prevalence of chronic diseases
  • Poor data accuracy and visibility for decision making
  • Lack of nursing leadership in health care – Nurses as drivers of the health system
Purpose 
To increase the number of professionals equipped with skills in nursing care, service delivery, health
management, information systems and health promotion. 

Vision
Highly skilled, confident, knowledgeable and compassionate nurses and service providers to improve service delivery.

Objectives 
  • Train nurses and community health/development workers. 
  • Strengthen and improve health service delivery in field attachment hospitals. 
  • Develop partnerships that will enable development of a model of health care in the community. 
  • Provide opportunities for operational research. 

Where? 
Located in Nkozi trading centre, 83.4km from Kampala, Uganda on Kampala to Masaka highway. 
The community hosts Uganda Martyrs’ University, Nkozi Hospital, several secondary and primary schools, Nkozi Sub-County Headquarters.
